Ma Haiping
Mind Reader EP

Chinese producer Ma Haiping released The Chinese Connection EP in 2012, becoming the first Chinese artist to release electronic music in Detroit. Subsequently, his music was featured on legendary labels, including Jeff Mills's AXIS. Years later, he returned to Detroit with his first Electro EP, set to be released on SCAN Records, the new label founded by the legendary musician SCAN 7.

This EP continues his acclaimed Detroit Futurism spirit. With the rise of technology in a new era, new systems provide humanity with more material resources but simultaneously control culture and thought. "Mind Readers" suggests that mobile electronic devices can track human actions and even make judgments before you think. "Sensitive Period" was co-created by Ma Haiping and Shanghai-based Scottish producer Shanghai Ultra in 2022. "No Exposed" reflects the idea that under the control of technology, it is impossible to reveal anything real because reality itself no longer exists.

The entire EP is crafted with classic 808 drum sounds and a funky bassline, paired with cold synthesizers that create a dystopian texture. Like all Electro musicians, Ma Haiping was deeply influenced by Drexciya.
